Tonight I got a chance to watch the last lunar eclipse over Los Angeles until 2010. Every time I get to witness an eclipse I’m always left in awe at the epic proportions of the event. When one considers that tonight’s eclipse was simply the shadow of earth on the moon, it feels funny to then compare the shadow that we (human’s) or even anything else that surrounds us in our daily lives. I took the moments of watching the eclipse to remind myself that our world is just a small spec in universe.

On Friday we rolled down to San Diego to meet up with the homie Andres from Classic Drug References. Aside from his blog, Andres is also the president of the Hip-Hop club at UCSD and that night he had organized a show featuring Elzhi from Slum Village, Blu, DJ House Shoes, and Sene.

The show was great as expected. The artists performed old and new songs and the crowd was feeling it all. All three MCs also treated the crowd with some a cappella verses, each demonstrating their lyrical prowess.

After the show we all went back to Andres’ crib to chill (i.e. listen to more dope music and watch funny shit on youtube). Overall it was a great night. It was nice to see that the culture is still alive and kicking through the underground scene. It’s up to us now, the listeners, to keep it moving and growing. The other day I stopped my friend Rex’s (Rogues Status) apartment/bike workshop to pick a part. He had a really impressive collection of vintage Italian bikes that he had just got in. What really strikes me about these old bikes is the attention to detail of the craftsmanship and finish. I feel it’s something that’s lost in our current times since everything now days is built to a price instead of being built for quality. This, I feel is something that needs to be brought back, not only in bikes, but in everything…

Today was the 50th anniversary of the Lego brick. I just wanted to take the opportunity to pay a little respect to the “toy” that helped me and I believe a lot kids from my generation to learn about building and creating objects that we can interact with. Thank You LEGO.

So according to Pantone, “Blue Iris” is the color of the year for 2008. They describe it as: “Combining the stable and calming aspects of blue with the mystical and spiritual qualities of purple, Blue Iris satisfies the need for reassurance in a complex world, while adding a hint of mystery and excitement.”

Personally I’m not really sure how a forecasting committee comes up with a so called “color of the year.” I thought it was a bit silly but i decided to test out this infamous color anyways by applying it to a few photos i took in the last few day since it was the first few pictures i snapped in this new year.

Well I’m going to guess we’re probably going to see a bunch of clothing, gadgets, advertisements and maybe even a concept car or two that uses “Blue Iris” later on this year. Since that usually how the big companies decide what they are going to paint things. But let me know what you think of the color…
